Premier League footballer David Goodwillie has had his assault trial adjourned until the new year.

The Blackburn Rovers striker is accused of attacking a man in a city-centre street.

The 22-year-old Scotland international denies punching John Friel, 23, on the head and body on November 3 last year in Glasgow’s Queen Street.

Goodwillie was due to stand trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court today but a motion by the defence to adjourn the case to allow more inquiries to be made was accepted.

A new date was set for January next year.

Goodwillie, from Stirling, moved from Dundee United to Blackburn this summer for a fee of more than £2m.
