Republic of Ireland striker Simon Cox hailed his team-mates as “heroes” after they defeated Armenia to book their place in the Euro 2012 play-offs.

Republic of Ireland striker Simon Cox hailed his team-mates as “heroes” after they defeated Armenia to book their place in the Euro 2012 play-offs.

Armenia, who started the match just a point behind Ireland in Group B, suffered a major blow in the 26th minute when they lost goalkeeper Roman Berezovsky to a red card for handball outside the area and the visitors fell behind just before the break when Valeri Aleksanyan put into his own net.
