Kenna goal proves Sligo's undoing
St Patrick's Athletic 1 Sligo Rovers 0
Skipper Conor Kenna did champions Shamrock Rovers a massive favour tonight as his second-half winner ended leaders Sligo's five-match winning run.
The victory, St Pat's first in three games, also re-ignites their hopes of getting a European spot via the league.
Shamrock Rovers can go top of the table should they win at Bray Wanderers on Sunday afternoon. They would also still have a game in hand.
Sligo edged the possession before the game's only goal arrived on 67 minutes when Kenna's header from a Stephen Bradley free-kick deflected past Sligo keeper Brendan Clarke.
Sligo pressed hard to get back into it and midfielder Alan Kirby hit the crossbar late on as St Pat's held out for what could prove to be the most telling result in the title run-in.
