Lampard starts for Blues

Frank Lampard was recalled for Chelsea’s Champions League clash at Valencia tonight as Andre Villas-Boas made three changes for the Group E clash at the Mestalla.

England midfielder Lampard had started three of the previous four matches on the bench, with his recall appearing further proof he is now being held back for the big games.

David Luiz and Florent Malouda also started, while Valencia dropped goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, the Spaniards otherwise reverting to the side which almost beat Barcelona in their last Primera Liga home game.

Valencia: Diego Alves, Miguel, Rami, Victor Ruiz, Jordi Alba, Ever, Albelda, Pablo, Canales, Mathieu, Soldado.

Subs: Guaita, Bruno, Maduro, Jonas, Feghouli, Piatti, Parejo.

Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, Luiz, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Mikel, Lampard, Malouda, Torres, Mata.
