Aaron Greene blew hapless Drogheda away with a first half double to help Sligo Rovers go top of the table.

In-form Sligo were positive from the off and got the perfect start with their lead goal inside two minutes.

Drogheda didn’t clear a Joseph Ndo corner and Derek Foran set up Greene to shoot to the net.

Greene doubled that lead on 29 minutes, shooting home off both posts after great approach play by John Russell and then Matthew Blinkhorn.

Ndo brought a brilliant save from Drogheda keeper Stephen Trimble on 80 minutes before Sligo added a scrappy third goal a minute later with Russell tapping home following poor defending.

Drogheda midfielder Mark O’Brien was sent off for retaliation in an off the ball incident in stoppage time.
