All square at the Showgrounds
Sligo Rovers 1 Derry City 1
Champions Shamrock Rovers were the only winners as their two main title rivals played out a draw at the Showgrounds.
Sligo will be the more disappointed as they enjoyed much of the possession and attacking threat, but failed to translate that into goals.
Ex-Cameroon international Joseph Ndo lit up the match on 14 minute when turning coltishly past two opponents, taking a touch or two before unleashing a 25-yard shot that deflected past Ger Doherty in the Derry goal to give Sligo the lead.
Alan Kirby fired inches wide before Doherty made a vital save from Eoin Doyle on 40 minutes as Sligo failed to extend their advantage.
A minute later Derry were level following a solo run by Stephen McLaughlin whose shot took a deflection to beat Brendan Clarke.
Sligo remained the better side throughout the second half but never really threatened Doherty’s goal as Derry took a big point back to the Brandywell.
