Rangers were dealt a double defensive blow ahead of their Europa League qualifier against Maribor with the news that David Weir and Kyle Bartley did not travel.

The Scottish champions jetted out from Glasgow Airport this morning for tomorrow’s play off first leg in Slovenia.

Skipper Weir failed to recover from a hamstring strain that has sidelined him for a couple of weeks, while Kyle Bartley suffered a groin strain in the 2-0 win at Inverness at the weekend.

Better news for Rangers is that Lee McCulloch, who can operate at centre-half if need be, did travel and looks set to recover from a knee injury.

Kyle Lafferty, who is recovering from a hernia operation, travelled with the rest of the team but is highly unlikely to feature.
