Aquilani seals victory as Torres cries off

A late goal from Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani gave Italy a 2-1 win over world champions Spain in Bari this evening.

Riccardo Montolivo gave Italy the lead after 11 minutes before the visitors lost both Fernando Torres and Gerard Pique to injury, with the former apparently suffering from concussion.

Real Madrid’s Xabi Alonso levelled for Spain from the penalty spot after Giorgio Chiellini had fouled Torres’ replacement Fernando Llorente.

The game seemed to be heading for a draw until Aquilani struck from 20 yards out with time running out.

Germany recorded a 3-2 win at home to Brazil with all five goals coming in the final half an hour in Stuttgart.

Playmaker Bastian Schweinsteiger gave the hosts the lead with a 61st minute penalty following Lucio’s foul on Toni Kroos before Mario Gotze made it 2-0 with a close range finish six minutes later.

Australia picked up a 2-1 win against Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium with Tim Cahill volleying the opener for Holger Osieck’s side just before half-time, Wales having a strong penalty appeal for a foul on Bale being waved away seconds earlier, before substitute Robbie Kruse tapped in the second just after the hour mark.

Darcy Blake pulled a goal back for the hosts as they finished strongly, but it was not enough to prevent a fourth defeat in five games for Wales under Gary Speed.

Hannover striker Mohammed Abdellaoue was the standout player as he scored a brace in Norway’s impressive 3-0 victory of the Czech Republic.

Abdellaoue opened the scoring after 22 minutes with Fulham defender John-Arne Riise doubling the lead 50 minutes later and Abdellaoue rounded off the scoring with an 88th minute penalty while a last minute goal from Gothenburg forward Tobias Hysen gave Sweden a 1-0 win against Euro 2012 co-hosts Ukraine.

Robert Snodgrass scored the winner as Scotland claimed their first victory over Denmark since 1975.

A Charlie Adam free-kick was deflected into own net by William Kvist Jorgensen for the opening goal before Christian Eriksen netted for the Danes.

But it was Snodgrass who had the final say against a nation who had prevented the Scots from scoring in their last five meetings.
