Healy signs new Rangers deal

David Healy will stay at Rangers after agreeing a new one-year contract with the SPL champions.

The 31-year-old Northern Ireland forward struggled with injuries last season but Rangers manager Ally McCoist has decided to keep him at Ibrox for the new campaign.

Healy told his club's official website www.rangers.co.uk: "I'm delighted to have been given this chance.

"I always said that joining the club in January was a huge honour and it was great to finish last season on such a high after winning the title and getting the double (by winning the CIS Insurance Cup)."

Healy, who is his country's record goalscorer at senior level, has struggled to settle since leaving Leeds in 2007 but will now be hoping to prove his worth to McCoist.

He added: "I spoke to Coisty, or the gaffer as I will call him now, after the Kilmarnock game about how I maybe didn't get as many games as I would have hoped for.

"But the form of Jela (Nikica Jelavic) and Laff (Kyle Lafferty) towards the end was a big part of why we won the league so I understood that and he told me that he would like me to come back for another season.

"Hopefully this year I'll be coming in fresh after pre-season and I can bring something to the team and give the gaffer a different option on the pitch."
