Drogs teach students a lesson
Drogheda United 3 UCD 1
A brace of goals from Tiarnan Mulvenna ensured Drogheda bounced back well from their 4-1 defeat to St. Pat’s on Friday to make it three wins in five games.
Recent signing Mulvenna fired home his first goal for the club on 42 minutes from Colin O’Brien’s cross.
College levelled on 58 minutes when striker Graham Rusk headed home from Samir Belhout’s assist.
But parity was short-lived as Drogs regained the lead within a minute. Dinny Corcoran put Mulvenna in one-on-one with Ger Barron and he finished well.
UCD’s hopes were raised on 76 minutes when Drogheda midfielder Mark O’Brien was sent off for a second booking following a foul on Ciaran Nangle.
The Students had their chances to level with Drogheda keeper Stephen Trimble saving well from Belhout before Colin O’Brien sealed the points with Drogheda’s third goal five minutes into added time.
