North strike pushes Pats closer to Rovers

In-form Danny North’s 10th goal of the season, and a second from Evan McMillan, ensured St. Pat’s stretched their unbeaten league run to 13 games.

The win edges Pete Mahon’s Saints to within a point of leaders Shamrock Rovers as Galway suffered a 13th successive league loss.

North burst through on goal after just six minutes, and though keeper Greg Fleming parried his initial shot, the diminutive striker shot home the rebound.

Galway fought back well, but their hopes were dashed on 69 minutes when midfielder Steve Feeney was harshly sent off for a second booking.

Saints then doubled their lead three minutes later when central defender McMillan got a glancing header to captain Stephen Bradley’s corner.
