McClean returns for Candystripes' trip to Shamrock Rovers

Shamrock Rovers could move six points clear at the top of the table with victory over Derry City at Tallaght Stadium tonight, kick-off 8pm.

The Hoops had an impressive victory in UCD on Friday night but may have to plan tonight without midfielder Chris Turner who picked up a back injury at Belfield.

Otherwise Rovers boss Michael O’Neill has a full squad available to him with no other injury or suspension concerns.

O’Neill said: “This is a big game for both sides, but we will be hoping the result goes our way and we pick up the three points.

“We are aiming to get 20 points in this second quarter, so we need to keep getting the wins, especially in our home games.

“We did very well on Friday night. The team put in a good professional performance, so we will be looking to continue where we left off in tonight’s game.”

The Candystripes return to Dublin for the second time in three days after drawing 1-1 with St Patrick’s Athletic on Friday night at Richmond Park.

James McClean returns from suspension to bolster Stephen Kenny’s squad. The City boss has a full squad to choose from with no injury concerns ahead of the trip to Tallaght.

Kenny said: "Shamrock Rovers are a good team and they are able to rotate the team a lot more than other squads.

“They were able to rest Ken Oman for Friday’s game with UCD and everyone knows how important a player he is.”
