Cherry Orchard 1 UCD 2

UCD were given a right scare as they had to battle hard to gain entry to the fourth round of the cup against non-league Cherry Orchard at the UCD Bowl.

While they had most of the play, College needed an error to snatch the lead on 34 minutes when Sean Russell, son of manager Martin, shot home the rebound after Orchard keeper Keith Gallagher spilled Paul Corry's shot.

Substitute Stephen Doyle put UCD further in front on 67 minutes when he scooped home the loose ball after Russell's shot came back off the crossbar.

Cherry Orchard got a goal back on 80 minutes when Alan McNevin headed home Ian McNeill's corner.

UCD then had to hold out in a dramatic finish as first Philip Sheppard hit their bar with a shot minutes later with Adam Crowther's tame follow-up saved by Ger Barron.

Barren then saved brilliantly from Crowther three minutes from time to deprived Cherry Orchard of a replay.
