Albion keen on Vaughan

West Brom are stepping up their efforts to sign Blackpool midfielder David Vaughan, it is understood.

The Wales international – available on a free transfer – is understood to have held initial talks with the Baggies.

Vaughan has been offered a three-year deal by Blackpool despite their relegation to the Championship and also spoken with Sunderland and Rangers.

But he has indicated Albion are the preferred choice of the clubs he has spoken to.

The 28-year-old, the Tangerines’ player of the year, is also keen to stay close to his current home in north Wales.

Everton were linked with Vaughan at the tail-end of last season but have not spoken so far to the player.

Vaughan would face competition in the West Brom midfield from Paul Scharner, Youssouf Mulumbu and Graham Dorrans.

But he has created a favourable impression with Baggies head coach Roy Hodgson.
