Luigi Del Neri has confirmed he is to leave Juventus after tomorrow’s final match of the season against Napoli.

Del Neri ended speculation over his future by confirming today he has been told he will be replaced.

“Juventus will change coach, I was informed of this decision,” he said.

“I wish good luck to whoever will follow me but I do not know who he is.”

Juventus lie seventh in Serie A, three points shy of Roma, and even if they win tomorrow and Roma lose, the capital club have a better head-to-head record. That means Juve cannot qualify for Europe next season.

“I do not see this as a personal defeat,” Del Neri said of Juve’s decision.

“I thank Juventus for the opportunity they gave me. It was a new environment for me and I think I improved.

“I think that I did the best that I could and I am at peace with my conscience.

“This is a group of players that must grow, that needs more experience. I know my players and tell them they can do better, but I also know they gave their all and have done their duty.”

It has long been expected that Del Neri might leave this summer, with former Juve midfielder Antonio Conte emerging as the favourite to take over after leading Siena to promotion from Serie B.

Del Neri, who guided Sampdoria to fourth place last term only to see them relegated in his absence this season, is confident of finding another job soon.

“I hope that this will happen for me, because as they say, one door closes and another one opens,” he said.
