Dundalk into Setanta final

A thumping Jason Byrne header and a stoppage time winner on the night from Johnny Breen rubber-stamped Dundalk’s passage through to the Setanta Sports Cup final.

Though 3-1 up from the first leg, Dundalk trailed on the night until Byrne powered a stunning header past keeper Jack Duffin from Ross Gaynor’s sublime cross from the left on 67 minutes.

Man-of-the-match Byrne then put substitute Breen in on goal in the 93rd minute to score a well-taken winner off his left foot.

Dundalk's teenage defender Michael Hector had crashed a header against the bar from a Gaynor corner in the first minute of the second half, but was then out-jumped to allow Kieran O’Connor head Cliftonville in front on the night from Liam Fleming’s cross on 59 minutes to give the Belfast Reds hope.

Dundalk meet the winner of tomorrow night's second semi-final between Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers in the decider on May 14th.
