Derry hot streak continues

James McClean scored twice as Derry made it three wins on the spin to move up to second in the table tonight.

Eamon Zayed sent Derry on their way with the lead goal a minute before the break with a fine turn and shot past home keeper Greg Fleming.

McClean then got his first a minute after the restart when drilling a pass from skipper Kevin Deery beyond Fleming to utterly deflate Galway.

But Bobby Ryan gave Sean Connor’s Tribesmen hope within three minutes when he scored a terrific solo goal, running from deep before powering a shot past Ger Doherty.

It counted for little, however, as McClean put Derry 3-1 up five minutes later when cutting in from the right to fire past Fleming.

Gareth McGlynn added Derry’s fourth goal on 63 minutes, heading home Paddy McEleney’s cross.
