Lennon to undergo fitness tests

Aaron Lennon will undergo a series of tests at Tottenham’s training ground today to see if he will be fit for the club’s upcoming games against Wigan and Real Madrid.

The winger is at the club’s base in Chigwell, Essex, to undergo tests on the hamstring complaint which caused him to withdraw from England’s friendly against Ghana at Wembley tonight.

Tottenham will be hoping that the 23-year-old, who has played a pivotal role in Spurs’ domestic and European campaigns this season, will be fit to play in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final clash against Real Madrid in seven days’ time, and Saturday’s Barclays Premier League game with Wigan.

Fellow winger Gareth Bale’s participation in next week’s clash at the Bernabeu was put in doubt yesterday after the club revealed he had suffered a hamstring strain prior to Wales’ 2-0 defeat to England last week.

The former Southampton man returned to light training yesterday and Spurs will monitor their star man before deciding whether or not to risk him in either of the club’s next two games.

Midfielder Tom Huddlestone has been missing for almost four months with an ankle injury but hopes to return for Saturday’s game at Wigan.
