McNally the only injury worry for Drogs as they face Sligo
Drogheda United travel to the Showgrounds to face Sligo Rovers hoping to build on last week’s draw against Derry City, kick-off 7.45pm.
Mick Cooke’s side grabbed their first point of the campaign after fighting back from 2-0 down to take a point.
Alan McNally is the only injury worry for Drogheda boss Cooke ahead of the trip to the Showgrounds. The central defender picked up a knock in training.
David Quirke has recovered from the groin injury that has been niggling him since the Bohemians match and will travel with the squad.
Cooke said: “Going to Sligo is never easy, they are arguably one of the best sides in the division.
“However we are capable of getting a result. Coming from two goals down in the manner which we did against Derry has put a lot of confidence into the squad.
“We didn't just revert to the long ball when we went behind, we played well and fought our way back in.
“We lost our first two games but we did create chances in them and things could have been different. We now have a point on the board and we will travel to Sligo with confidence and hope to build on that.”
Rovers must plan without Joesph Ndo who is still recovering from a foot injury, while Daryl Horgan is also ruled out as he is away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland Under-19s.
Bit o' Red striker Raffaele Cretaro said: “It is very important to win home games. You want to win your home games and make it a fortress really. I think that has always been the case with Rovers. No team has ever liked coming down here trying to get a result. Hopefully we can get our first one on Friday.
“We’re creating chances but we’re not taking them. We lost to Shamrock Rovers but I think we had enough chances to win the game. It was the same case last Friday against Bray Wanderers. We just have to start converting them.
“It was nice to get a good run out against Bray. It was around half an hour and I know I missed that chance but I felt I was coming into it more as it went on.
“The longer I get on the pitch, the better. Paul favours the 4-5-1 formation and it was very successful for the club last season. When Joseph comes back it might shake things up a bit.
“Nobody likes sitting on the bench so I’ll keep working hard and keep patient. Hopefully when I get a chance the goals will come and then I can give Paul a headache in his selection.”
