Greg Fleming saved a penalty to earn Galway their first point of the campaign.

Fleming dived the right way to stop Graham Rusk's spot kick in the first minute of the second half after the Galway keeper had taken down the UCD striker.

Students' keeper Ger Barron also proved unbeatable at the other as Martin Russell's side took home a point.

Galway midfielder Alan Murphy was a constant thorn in UCD's side and had the first real chance of the night on eight minutes when seeing his shot come back off a post.

Murphy then sliced wide from Karl Moore's cross to miss another scoreable opening on 22 minutes.

Barron then kept UCD in the game before half time, saving well when Brian Cash got through one-on-one, before a terrific stop from a Joseph Yoffe shot just before half-time.

Murphy, twice, and Moore were thwarted by Barron throughout the second half as goalkeepers proved on top in an entertaining scoreless draw.
