2007: November – Ferguson is charged with using abusive and insulting words towards an official by the Football Association following an exchange with referee Mark Clattenburg during Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Bolton. Ferguson was sent to the stands by Clattenburg for a finger-jabbing half-time rant.

December – Ferguson is banned from the touchline for two matches and handed a £5,000 fine after admitting the charge.
