Portadown knock out holders Bohs
Portadown 2 Bohemians 0 (Portadown win 4-1 on aggregate)
Holders Bohemians bowed out of the Setanta Sports Cup with something of a whimper as they were well beaten at Shamrock Park to lose this first round tie on a resounding aggregate.
Trailing 2-1 from the first leg at Dalymount, it was to be a baptism of fire for manager Pat Fenlon’s youngsters as he brought in Daniel Joyce, Chris Forrester, Robert Lopez and David Labola, and they found themselves a goal down after just ten minutes.
Tim Mouncey got in behind the Bohemians rearguard to cross and Jordan Baker finished from close range.
Kevin Feely almost put through his own Bohs goal on 22 minutes from a Mouncey shot while Baker and Richard Lecky contrived to shoot over the top seconds later as Bohs remained under the cosh.
Fenlon brought on strikers Anto Flood and Christy Fagan at the break, but Portadown effectively killed off the tie three minutes in when Mouncey got on the end of Lecky’s cross to shoot past teenage goalkeeper Craig Sexton.
Portadown now meet Sligo Rovers in the quarter-finals.
