Newcastle striker Leon Best has withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad for Tuesday’s Carling Nations Cup clash with Wales.

The 24-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in today’s remarkable 4-4 Barclays Premier League draw with Arsenal, in which he scored his side’s second goal.
