Defoe returns for Spurs
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp handed 19-year-old winger Andros Townsend his debut as he looked to get over his failure to sign David Beckham by moving into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a win over npower League One side Charlton.
Townsend was included in a starting XI that contained nine changes from the side that lost to Everton on Wednesday.
Fringe players Carlo Cudicini, Niko Kranjcar and Sandro started, while Jermain Defoe returned from a three-match ban to lead the line alongside Roman Pavlyuchenko.
Caretaker Charlton boss Keith Peacock named two former Spurs players, Johnnie Jackson and Gary Doherty, in his team.
