Back-up players Vedran Corluka, Sebastien Bassong, Niko Kranjcar, Sandro and Wilson Palacios are likely to play while Jermain Defoe could start after missing the last three games through suspension.

Gareth Bale will be rested after picking up a minor back injury against Everton, Younes Kaboul is banned, and Carlo Cudicini (shoulder), Tom Huddlestone (ankle), Ledley King (groin), Jamie O’Hara (back) and Jonathan Woodgate (groin) are also unavailable.
