The 19-year-old midfielder replaced Steven Naismith who failed to recover from a hamstring strain.

Celtic’s new signing Freddie Ljungberg failed to even make the bench as Hoops boss Neil Lennon was forced to reshuffle his side which travelled to Govan one point clear of Rangers at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League, albeit having played two games more.

Lennon, without suspended captain Scott Brown and injured duo, Olivier Kapo and Daryl Murphy, drafted in Beram Kayal, Charlie Mulgrew and Georgios Samaras with Anthony Stokes dropped to the bench.

Rangers: McGregor, Foster, Bougherra, Weir, Papac, Davis, Ness, McCulloch, Whittaker, Miller, Weiss. Subs: Alexander, Fleck, Lafferty, Beattie, Webster, Kerkar, Hutton.

Celtic: Forster, Wilson, Majstorovic, Rogne, Izaguirre, Forrest, Kayal, Ledley, Mulgrew, McCourt, Samaras. Subs: Zaluska, Juarez, Hooiveld, Stokes, McGinn, Crosas, Towell.
