Italy’s football league chief Maurizio Beretta is confident this weekend’s planned Serie A strike will be avoided as the two sides moved closer to an agreement.

Beretta held talks with the players’ union (AIC) representatives in Rome yesterday to discuss the renewal of the collective bargaining agreement, which expired in June.
