Benjani passes himself fit

Blackburn striker Benjani Mwaruwari will be fit to face Wigan on Sunday despite being substituted after the first half of the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea.

The Zimbabwean, who scored his first goal for the club on Saturday, was replaced as a precaution after a hamstring niggle.

Benjani told Rovers TV: “The gaffer was just cautious and I’m definitely okay for the next match.

“I’m starting to feel my fitness is coming back and let’s hope I play more in the future. I’m almost there I just need more playing time.”

Benjani’s goal was his first in the Premier League for almost two years and he added: “It was a big relief – let’s hope I can score more for Blackburn now - but it is not so nice if you score and the team lose.

“We didn’t take our chances and against a team like Chelsea they will punish you.”
