Despite their difficult seasons, these sides produced a six-goal thriller at Hunky Dory’s Park.

Winger Brendan McGill put relegated Drogheda in front on seven minutes when he volleyed to the net after keeper Conor Winn dropped Peter McMahon’s corner.

Galway hit back through winger Derek O’Brien eight minutes later before Karl Sheppard put the westerners ahead on the half hour when blasting a free-kick past Paul Skinner.

But Drogheda equalised on 38 minutes. Conor Sinnott threaded the ball through to McMahon who shot past Winn.

In a rollercoaster of a game, substitute Rory Gartland put Galway back in front after David Sheppard’s shot rebounded to him.

Drogheda struck pack to get their point nine minutes later. Jamie Harris headed on and substitute Darragh McNamara fired home.

Galway now face Bray Wanderers in the relegation play-off at Terryland Park on Tuesday night.
