Shamrock Rovers look to stay in touch

Shamrock Rovers will look to keep the pressure on league leaders Bohemians with victory over Drogheda United at Tallaght Stadium tonight (kick-off 8pm).

James Chambers is a serious doubt for the Hoops with an ankle injury.

There are also doubts about Enda Stevens, who has a foot injury, while Pat Flynn will miss the game through suspension.

Dan Murray, Sean O’Connor and Pat Sullivan all remain out (knee injuries).

Hoops boss Michael O’Neill said: “Given our recent results in the league, the Cup semi-final win on Tuesday was a great boost for us. The players will now go into the last two games in a very positive mind-set, which may not have been the case if we did not get into the final.

“We just need to ensure we win our last two games now, and see what happens elsewhere.

“Drogheda still have something to play for, in that they can still avoid automatic relegation. But even if a team only has pride to play for, they can still be dangerous. They also have a new manager, and the players will be looking to impress him.

“But the lads have been very positive and working hard in training all this week, and are well up for this. They will be going out there to win this game.”

Drogheda boss Bobby Browne has an entirely fit squad with the exception of Ronan McEnteggart who has been ruled out of Friday's game through injury, while Glen Fitzpatrick is suspended for the trip to Tallaght.

Browne said: “We will go into this game in a positive matter. There are a few of the lads who'll want to show off their wares and prove a point.

“Tallaght is always a nice place to play and Shamrock Rovers are going to be a tough prospect no matter what their form is like.”
