Draw sees Drogheda stare into relegation abyss

Bray Wanderers 1 Drogheda United 1

Drogheda United’s nine-year tenure in the Premier Division is all but over as they now need a miracle if they are to preserve their top flight status.

Bobby Browne’s side are six points adrift, and seven goals worse off than second bottom Bray, with just two games to play.

Drogheda’s Spanish left-back Yael Haro had a bittersweet afternoon, scoring his first goal for the club before giving away a penalty to let Bray back into the match.

Darragh McNamara won a free kick off Derek Prendergast and Haro curled the ball round the wall and into the bottom right corner of Matt Gregg’s net to put Drogheda in front on six minutes.

Bray had a penalty shout for a handball turned down before referee Paul Tuite adjudged Haro to have tripped Chris Shields inside the area on 39 minutes.

Shane O’Neill then sent keeper Robert Duggan the wrong way from the spot.

Duggan made a terrific stop from O'Neill early in the second half before Drogheda pressed hard for a winner late on.

Substitute Ryan Brennan came close with a double chance while defender Jamie Harris had a late header saved by Gregg.
