Owen 'feeling sharp' ahead of new season
Manchester United striker Michael Owen says he is feeling good ahead of the new season.
The former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker, whose last competitive match was the Carling Cup final, scored in last night's 7-1 win over the Airtricity league eleven at the Aviva stadium.
However, he said it was important for him just to play and the result didn't matter.
Owen said: "It's important for me to get on the pitch. I scored but it's more important that I feel sharp and fit.
He said his fitness was a big plus for his confidence in the run-up to the new Premier League season.
He said: "Obviously I have been out for quite a while so it's nice to get out on the pitch and feel sharp."
