Rovers down Pats
Shamrock Rovers 2 St. Patrick’s Athletic 1
Shamrock Rovers' goalkeeper Alan Mannus saved a stoppage time penalty as the Hoops came from behind against St. Pat’s at Tallaght Stadium to go top of the table for the first time this season.
Derek Doyle put Saints in front five minutes into the second half after Stuart Byrne's cross deflected to him.
But Rovers stormed back with Thomas Stewart leveling on 64mins when rifling home James Chambers' cross.
Stewart then put Hoops in front on 81mins when shooting home the rebound after Gary Rogers could only parry Gary Twigg’s header from another Chambers cross.
The real drama unfolded in added time.
Rovers’ winger Billy Dennehy was sent off for deliberate handball on the line.
But winger Ryan Guy’s spot kick was saved by Mannus.
