Another star faces World Cup injury scare

Holland coach Bert van Marwijk admitted today that he is very concerned about the hamstring injury picked up by Arjen Robben in today’s World Cup warm-up victory over Hungary.

Robben came on as a half-time substitute in the 6-1 rout at the Amsterdam ArenA and scored two goals before being forced off with the injury five minutes from time.

The Bayern Munich winger is due to undergo a scan on the injury tomorrow, and Van Marwijk was downbeat about the situation after the match.

“I would rather lose this match and have Arjen stay fit,” Van Marwijk said in quotes reported by www.vi.nl.

“He felt a sharp pain. That does not bode well. But I do not lose hope.”

Van Marwijk has ruled out calling up a stand-by player until the results of tomorrow’s scan are known.

“On that basis, we will make a plan,” he added.
