Galway put their poor league form behind them to waltz into the fourth round of the FAI Ford Cup with this facile win.

Sean Connor's side settled their nerves early with the lead goal after just four minutes.

Malahide failed to deal with a Gary Curran free into their area and Rhys Meynell, at the second attempt, rifled the ball past keeper Pat Dunne.

Danny Butler then put through his own goal to double Galway's lead on 15 minutes.

The game was effectively over eight minute later when Anto Flood added a third with a looping header from Karl Sheppard's cross.

Sheppard, back from the Ukraine with the Ireland under-19s, got in on the scoring act two minutes into the second half, heading home Gary Curran's cross.

Midfielder Cian McBrien added the fifth goal four minutes from time.
