Ireland defeat U23 counterparts

The Republic of Ireland senior squad beat their Under-23 counterparts 1-0 in a training match tonight.

Hibernian striker Anthony Stokes’ goal was the difference between the sides as Giovanni Trapattoni’s side asserted their authority over the youngsters.

The former Sunderland forward met Cillian Sheridan’s cut-back outside the box to score midway through the first half.
