Injury worries for Rovers
Shamrock Rovers have several injury concerns ahead of their trip to face UCD at the UCD Bowl tonight (kick-off 7.45pm).
Pat Sullivan (knee) and Aidan Price (ankle) remain sidelined through injury, while Chris Turner (ankle) will face a late fitness test before the game.
Midfielder Robert Bayly is suspended after reaching four yellow cards.
Hoops boss Michael O’Neill said: “We are hoping to have Pat [Sullivan] back in the near future. He will start back training with us next week, and hopefully that all goes well for him.”
O’Neill added: “The game on Monday night [Rovers 1-0 win over UCD in the EA Sport Cup] means little coming into this match.
“Most of the players at UCD are at the start of their careers and are trying to build reputations for themselves in the league. And a game against Shamrock Rovers is always going to be seen as a good chance to do that.
“I’m expecting a tough game out there. Martin [Russell] has some very good players. But there is no reason why we cannot get the win.”
UCD boss Martin Russell will name a strong side to face Rovers and they should be brimming with confidence after thrashing Bray Wanderers 6-0 in the league last weekend.
Ciaran Kilduff is set to return to the College starting line-up after recovering from a concussion picked up against St Pat’s two weeks ago.
Goalkeeper Billy Brennan is also expected to be fit after recovering from a groin strain.
UCD boss Martin Russell said: “We treated (the EA Sports tie with Rovers) as a chance to give our fringe players an opportunity to impress. And they did. It’s all part of the learning process and they will have learned a lot from facing some of the best players in the domestic game in a competitive match.”
