Connor: Difficult period brought us closer together

Galway United boss Sean Connor travels with a depleted squad to Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds in tonight’s Airtricity League clash (kick-off 7.45pm).

Stephen O’Donnell (hamstring), Derek O’Brien (stomach), Jason Molloy (groin), Karl Sheppard (back), Gary Curran (knee) and Alan Murphy (long-term) are all injured.

Goalkeeper Barry Ryan is suspended, following his red card in Monday’s defeat to St Pat’s.

“Despite this being our seventh game in 20 days, I am looking forward to it,” said Connor. “The players’ attitude has been first class. They are a terrific bunch to work with and this difficult period has brought us closer together and will stand us in good stead as the season progresses.”

For Wanderers, Shane O'Neill, Stephen Brennan and Richie Baker are all ruled out with hamstring injuries, while Daire Doyle (foot) and John Mulroy (calf) will also miss out.

Dean Zambra is also missing from Eddie Gormley’s side as he is struggling with an ankle injury, although Mark O'Brien returns from suspension.

Dylan Vickers, Adam O'Connor and Ian Touhy have been drafted in to the Bray squad as cover.

Wanderers boss Gormley said: "They (Galway) are a very good side and I would have liked to have a full squad to pick from and not be down six first-teamers.

“It will be difficult, but if we apply ourselves as we did in Dundalk we have a chance.”
