Stoke goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen could still represent Denmark in the World Cup after his dislocated elbow did not require surgery.

Sorensen was hurt trying to prevent Salomon Kalou from putting Chelsea 2-0 ahead in the 7-0 thrashing at Stamford Bridge.

Surgery would have put the 33-year-old’s participation in South Africa in severe doubt but he is still in with a chance after his dislocated elbow was put back into place.

Potters manager Tony Pulis told club website stokecityfc.com: “If he had needed an operation, he’d have struggled to make the World Cup, but there is some encouraging news in that it was put back without the need for that.”
