Dundalk take home the points from the west
Galway United 0 Dundalk 1
Ross Gaynor was Dundalk’s star as Ian Foster’s side went back top of the Airtricity League table as he beat his former club at Terryland Park.
Dundalk shaded the first half with JJ Melligan having the best chance in forcing a corner off keeper Barry Ryan from Maher’s cross.
Galway captain Ryan then kept his side in it with a good save from a Neale Fenn penalty after he’d taken down the Dundalk striker on 50 minutes.
But Dundalk remained the better side and deservedly took the lead on 61 minutes.
Collecting Maher’s through ball, Gaynor rounded Ryan and slid the ball home.
Dundalk now move two points clear at the top of the Premier Division table overnight.
