Win puts Sporting top of the table

A penalty goal from Alan Kirby saw newly promoted Sporting Fingal leapfrog Dundalk to the top of the table as they ended the Lilywhites’ unbeaten start to the season.

Sporting had the lead after nine minutes from an unfortunate own goal when Eamon Zayed’s cross flew into the net off the head of defender Wayne Hatswell.

JJ Melligan levelled for Dundalk on 51 minutes when latching onto Ger O’Brien’s short back pass to chip Darren Quigley.

But Sporting won it seven minutes later when Kirby shot home a spot kick after Gary O’Neill had been taken down by Garry Breen.
