Hoops win Dublin derby
Shamrock Rovers 1 Bohemians 0
Billy Dennehy was the Hoops’ hero as he kick-started Shamrock Rovers’ season with the only goal at Tallaght Stadium tonight.
Rovers got the only goal of a tight game with their first goal from open play this season - and their first at home - on 38 minutes.
Aidan Price flicked on a Stephen Rice long throw and winger Dennehy nodded past Chris O’Connor.
Roused by that, Rovers might have gone in 2-0 up at half-time but for hardworking lone front man Thomas Stewart shooting just over the bar.
Boss Pat Fenlon rallied Bohs at the break and midfielder Paul Keegan saw his header cleared off the line by Danny Murphy within minutes of the restart.
Bohs pressed for much of the remainder but Rovers held firm for a big, big win.
