Following the 7-2 victory against Sunderland, goalkeeper Hilario returned as well as Paulo Ferreira, Alex, Yury Zhirkov, Deco and Daniel Sturridge.

Sturridge was paired up front with Nicolas Anelka against the Coca-Cola Championship side.

It was Darren Ferguson’s first home game as Preston manager and he recalled Michael Hart, Youl Mawene and Billy Jones to the team.

Preston: Lonergan, Hart, Mawene, St. Ledger, Davidson, Sedgwick, Chaplow, Jones, Carter, Wallace, Brown.

Subs: Henderson, Collins, Chilvers, Parkin, Mellor, Barton, Mayor.

Chelsea: Hilario, Paulo Ferreira, Alex, Terry, Zhirkov, Belletti, Ballack, Lampard, Deco, Anelka, Sturridge.

Subs: Turnbull, Ivanovic, Joe Cole, Malouda, Matic, Borini, Van Aanholt.
