The mayor of the Polish city of Wroclaw says he has fired a company that was too slow in constructing a stadium for the Euro 2012 football championships.

Rafal Dutkiewicz said today he had cancelled an agreement with Polish company Mostostal because it was months behind in building the city’s venue for the games, which Poland will co-host with Ukraine.

Mr Dutkiewicz said a new company would be selected in January to complete construction by the summer of 2011, in time for the games.

Four cities in Poland will host matches: Warsaw, Poznan, Gdansk and Wroclaw.
