Donovan expected to confirm Toffees loan
Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan will hold a press conference later today at which he is expected to announce he is joining Everton on loan in January.
Unites States international Donovan, the reigning Major League Soccer MVP, is keen to move to Europe on a short-term deal to maintain his match fitness ahead of the World Cup finals next summer.
Everton have admitted holding talks with the Galaxy with a view to taking the 27-year-old to Goodison Park although the player is not short of options.
A Galaxy statement on Friday stated: “We are aware of Everton’s interest in Landon Donovan as they are one of a number of clubs who have contacted the Galaxy about the possibility of a short-term loan agreement.
“The Galaxy, MLS and Landon’s representative will work together to determine if and whether an arrangement with Everton or any other club would be beneficial to all parties.”
Everton are hoping to utilise a similar agreement Donovan’s Galaxy team-mate David Beckham has with AC Milan, who he is joining in January on a short-term deal during the MLS close season.
Donovan will speak in LA at 12pm Pacific Time, 8pm in the United Kingdom.
