Backe: Sven will stay

Notts County manager Hans Backe does not expect director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson to walk away from the club.

Notts County manager Hans Backe does not expect director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson to walk away from the club.

Backe, appointed by Eriksson in late October, believes the task facing his fellow Swede at Meadow Lane is too great a challenge to pass up.

“This has been the biggest challenge for him – to build a team from League Two and take it forward – so I don’t think Sven will leave,” Backe told Sky Sports News.

Backe also feels proposed new owners will not affect his position at the club or have an impact on the field.

He added: “If something happens then we will have to wait and see. If new owners are coming in then we will have to see what happens.

“It was only this morning that I have seen headlines since I have been involved and, if you look at the players and the way they train, I don’t think it has affected them.”

Eriksson has been linked with being part of a management buy-out of the club involving executive chairman Peter Trembling, but it is understood no discussions have taken place with Eriksson regarding such a move.
