Six-goal rollercoaster keeps Rovers’ title chase alive
Dundalk 2 Shamrock Rovers 4
Shamrock scored twice late on to keep their hopes of winning the league alive in a thrilling game on Oriel Park’s plastic pitch tonight.
Shane Robinson shot Rovers in front on 28 minutes, but Dundalk responded to level five minutes into the second half when Chris Turner’s long range shot squirmed under the body of Alan Mannus for a soft goal.
A header from defender Darragh Maguire restored Rovers' lead on 80 minutes.
But scarcely had Rovers drawn breath when Dundalk equalised again through striker Alex Williams.
But Rovers kept battling away and were rewarded with late goals from topscorer Gary Twigg, his 23rd of the season, and Dessie Baker inside the last five minutes.
The result means that the title race looks set to go to the last match of the season.
