The victory ended a run of five straight defeats for Stephen Kenny’s side as sorry St Pat’s were all too easily beaten for the second time in a week.
Gareth McGlynn punished a defensive error by Darragh Ryan to shoot Derry in front after just nine minutes.
A terrific move down the left wing on 56 minutes brought Derry’s second goal.
Barry Molloy put James McLean away and his cross was bundled home from close range by David McDaid.
