Galway exact revenge on Derry with convincing win

Galway United 3 Derry City 1

Galway avenged a 3-0 defeat to Derry back in May with a terrific display as they came from behind to all but secure their Premier Division status for next season.

Gareth McGlynn put Derry in front on 26 minutes when he beat Cian McBrien to curl a shot past Barry Ryan.

McBrien made amends within 12 minutes as Galway responed well. Alan Murphy's free-kick wasn’t fully cleared and McBrien drilled a shot past Ger Doherty.

Galway then went in front four minutes before the interval. A superb cross from Ireland under-21 international Seamus Conneely was met by Aaron Greene who fired to the net.

Derry’s hopes of a revival suffered a telling blow five minutes into the second half when experienced defender Clive Delaney was sent off for a tackle on Derek O’brien.

Substitute Jason Molloy added Galway’s third goal to seal the win when converting a Vinny Faherty cross in the final minute.
