Dunne denied against Montenegro

Richard Dunne was denied by the crossbar as the Republic of Ireland were held at the break by Montenegro this evening.

The Aston Villa defender headed Stephen Hunt’s 42nd-minute free-kick against the woodwork after Damien Duff had earlier shot into the side-netting.

Ireland did not have things all their own way and goalkeeper Shay Given, winning his 100th cap, was relieved to see skipper Branko Boskovic head wide with the goal at his mercy after 29 minutes.
